Spring Cleaning II

So as you're sorting through your spring wardrobe, if you're like me, you can't help but sort through your Blackberry. ;-) I have a friend who had something quite awful happen to her last week. A particular gentleman had been trying to get a date with her for 2 YEARS. Yes, 2 years. She dodged every date, but was feeling a little charitable with spring approaching (warm weather has a way of doing that to you). So she finally tells the guy yes. For his part, he's not too shabby. He's a tad annoying, but happens to be a doctoral candidate in biochemistry at an Ivy League school. He also happens to write poetry and loves sports. Even though my friend is less than thrilled about this date, she decides it's time to try new things. Needless to say, the guy is beyond happy she said yes.

So they make plans for a week later. They'll be doing dinner at a super swanky hot spot in the city. It's my friend's favorite, so she's pretty into it. Even if the date is horrible, the food and ambience will be fab.

One day before the date, the guy IMs her - yes, no call an INSTANT MESSAGE - to say it's not his week to get paid, and he'd like to move the date to the following week. My friend graciously agrees, and is actually relieved, because she didn't want to go. If only her girlfriends were so forgiving!

Here's what angers me. He should know this girl isn't concerned about money. He could have suggested they meet for coffee! They could have gone to a museum instead! Is he really that awful at date planning??? And this is a guy who LOVES to brag about how much money he has! Now all of a sudden when he gets to go out with a girl he's been STALKING for 2 years he's broke??

Oh, but it gets better. He calls the girl a week after the cancelled date to see if she wants to go out THAT NIGHT. He called her at 7AM, to be exact. Woke her up with a TEXT MESSAGE asking her out. No 24 hour notice - not even 12 HOURS! She declined. He did this again the next day - and she declined again. After the 3 day - and 3rd declined invitation, he IMed her to talk about it.

When she told him it was not cool to ask her out the same day, he called her HIGH MAINTENANCE!!!! Needless to say, I told her he needed to be thrown out this season. He just doesn't get it.

I will say, however, that it's always nice when you can pull out an old faithful from your address book and enjoy a nice meal and great company. Those types of guys are ALWAYS in style and look good with any outfit. ;-) Mr. Same Day should be moved to the Do Not Call Me - EVER - List. So glad my friend took my advice. ;-)

Peace, love, & shopping,

TW
